In celebration of Serena Williams’ return to the U.S. Open this week, Nike has introduced a new ad which features home videos of the tennis star when she was just a nine-year old kid in Compton with dreams of playing in the event.

The ad, entitled “Voice of Belief,” starts with old footage of Williams and her father training at a local tennis court. “This is you at the U.S. Open. This is you,” her father says before she serves. His voiceover continues as the footage cuts back-and-forth to an older version of the tennis icon competing at the U.S. Open over the years.

“If you don’t dare to try and chase your dreams, you’ll rob yourself the joy of doing it. Don’t just dream it. #JustDoIt,” Williams posted on Instagram.

Serena, ranked 17th, is scheduled to take on Magda Linette tonight at 7pm ET at Arthur Ashe Stadium in the Round of 128. Check out the new Nike ad in the video embedded below.

Last week, Williams’ patented black catsuit, the one she said made her feel like like a “queen from Wakanda,” was banned by French tennis officials. The stricter dress code for the 2019 French Open will not be as strict as Wimbledon, where players are required to wear white, but “certain limits” will be imposed, according to reports.

In wake of the new dress code, Nike shows support for Serena with a message on social media that reads, “You can take the superhero out of her costume, but you can never take away her superpowers. #justdoit.”
